Wendy Waters
Wendy Waters has been a licensed massage therapist for over 30 years. She specializes in neuromuscular and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) massage.
She has extensive experience in treating many types of special conditions and has worked with thousands of patients over the years. She is particularly skilled at working with elderly and patients with special needs. She makes a commitment to listening, honest communication, compassion and integrity which contribute towards tangible results for her clients.
She has had training in many types of massage techniques. Her skill at TMJ massage comes from decades of work with Dr Robert Supple, one of New Mexicos foremost TMJ experts, and she provides the in-office TMJ massages for his dental practice.
She comes for a long tradition of healers and is the grand daughter of the famous Magnolia Ellis, who was a noted healer in Hot Springs (Now Truth or Consequence) in the 1940’s.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue. This can be accomplished through the use of pressure, vibration, or tension and is generally accomplished manually. Tissues that can be targeted with massage include muscles, ligaments, skin, connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels.
Repetitive motion can also cause adhesions to the deeper muscles causing restricted range of motion. Deep tissue bodywork helps to bring the muscle back to its natural way of working.
Deep tissue massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. This type of therapeutic massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain as a result of heavy physical activity, such as athletes, or clients who have sustained physical trauma.
Benefits of therapeutic massage include pain relief, reduced anxiety and stress, lowered blood pressure and heart rate, as well as relief from signs of sub-clinical depression. There have been many studies of massage supporting the effectiveness in reduction of symptoms for these and other health challenges. Wendy believes the best measure of the worth of massage comes from tangible results. My objective is to help keep our amazing bodies functioning the way they are meant to.
TMJ
Much of Wendy’s work has been in the treatment of pain related to TMJ (temporomandibular joint). TMJ pain is commonly caused by myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome, primarily involving the muscles of mastication, otherwise known as your chewing muscles. Many dentists recommend deep tissue massage for relief of TMJ pain. This involves massage of the facial, neck, and shoulder muscles. TMJ massage generally is part of an over TMJ strategy thru a dentist/specialist.
